Gemini 4 Argon Is Coming to Antigravity: Model Picker Labels Found in App 2.23.0

TL;DR: Google’s Antigravity desktop app 2.23.0, released October 12, 2026, contains the model IDs gemini-4-argon, gemini-4-argon-low, gemini-4-argon-medium and gemini-4-argon-high. It also has the menu labels “Gemini 4 Argon (Low)”, “(Medium)” and “(High)”, written in the same style as every model you can already pick. Version 2.22.0 had none of these. Argon is not selectable yet. On the same day, Gemini 3.1 Pro, 3.6 Flash and 3.7 Flash dropped out of the Antigravity CLI model list.

What we found

We track every official Antigravity build automatically. Our monitor picks up new releases from Google’s own update servers and scans each binary for model names. Shortly after midnight on October 13 it flagged the new desktop app version 2.23.0. We scanned the official Linux build, which shares its language server code with Windows and macOS.

Here is a search for Argon strings in the app’s language server. Version 2.22.0 returns nothing; version 2.23.0 returns seven hits:

grep output: no Argon strings in Antigravity 2.22.0, seven in 2.23.0

String What it is
gemini-4-argon base model ID
gemini-4-argon-low, -medium, -high reasoning-effort variants, the same pattern as the Gemini 3.8 Flash entries that are live today
Gemini 4 Argon (Low), (Medium), (High) display names for the model picker, stored next to labels such as “Gemini 3 Flash”

Here are all the model strings that are new in 2.23.0 compared with 2.22.0:

All model strings added in Antigravity 2.23.0, Gemini 4 Argon highlighted

Some lines (for example gemini-2 under “removed”) are scanning noise. Go binaries pack strings back to back, so a few entries get cut differently from build to build. The Argon entries appear consistently, in four IDs and three labels.

Why this looks close to launch

Last week we found gemini-3.1-ultra in Antigravity CLI 1.3.1. That string is still the odd one out. Argon looks different:

gemini-3.1-ultra gemini-4-argon
Low / Medium / High variants no yes
Model picker label no yes, “Gemini 4 Argon (High)” etc.
Where it appears CLI since 1.3.1, desktop app since 2.23.0 desktop app 2.23.0 only (not yet in CLI 1.3.3)
Offered to accounts no no (as of Oct 13)

Models only get effort variants and display labels when they are wired into the picker. Ultra still looks like a reserved name. Argon has everything a selectable model has, except the server-side switch.

Not live yet

The CLI on our test machine (agy 1.3.3, current stable) does not list Argon:

agy models on October 13, 2026: no Gemini 4 Argon

Our machine also had not received 2.23.0 through auto-update yet, because Google rolls new versions out gradually. The model list the server sends to the desktop app had not changed either at the time of writing. When Argon shows up there, it will be a server-side change and needs no app update.

Gemini 3.1 Pro, 3.6 and 3.7 Flash just left the CLI

Compare the screenshot above with what agy models returned on October 8. It listed 18 models: Gemini 3.8, 3.7 and 3.6 Flash (High / Medium / Low each), Gemini 3.1 Pro (High / Low), Claude Opus 5.5, Claude Sonnet 5.5 and GPT-OSS 120B.

On October 13 it returns only 10. Gemini 3.1 Pro, Gemini 3.7 Flash and Gemini 3.6 Flash are gone. The only Gemini model left is 3.8 Flash.

This had been announced in the app. On October 12 the model picker tagged all of these models “Leaving Soon”, with these tooltips:

  • Gemini 3.1 Pro: “Use Gemini 3.8 Flash! As a newer model, it delivers more intelligence at 2x the speed for 70% less cost than Gemini 3.1 Pro.”
  • Gemini 3.6 / 3.7 Flash: “Start using Gemini 3.8 Flash, our best Flash model.”
  • GPT-OSS 120B (“Notice”): “GPT-OSS will be removed from Antigravity on November 2, 2026.”

That leaves Antigravity, for now, with no Gemini Pro-class model at all. The obvious candidate to fill that gap is the model whose labels just shipped in 2.23.0.

What we know about Gemini 4 Argon

  • Google announced Gemini 4 Argon on September 30, 2026 as its new top-tier frontier model.
  • Access is staged. It started with vetted cybersecurity partners and Google’s own teams, and paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers come next. Google has not given a public release date.
  • Introductory API pricing was reported at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. Check Google’s own pricing page before relying on this.

The Antigravity strings don’t tell us which accounts will get Argon first. They do show that Antigravity’s client is ready to display it.

How to check it yourself

  1. Download the official 2.23.0 build from antigravity.google/releases, or wait for auto-update.
  2. Search its language server:
grep -aoE 'Gemini 4 Argon \([A-Za-z]+\)|gemini-4-argon(-low|-medium|-high)?' language_server | sort -u

On Windows the file is %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Antigravity\resources\bin\language_server.exe. Run the command from Git Bash or WSL.

  1. Check what your account is actually offered: agy models in the CLI, or the model picker in the app.

FAQ

Is Gemini 4 Argon available in Antigravity? Not yet, as of October 13, 2026. The app contains its model IDs and menu labels, but the server does not offer the model to accounts yet.

Which Antigravity version contains Gemini 4 Argon? The desktop app 2.23.0, released October 12, 2026. The Antigravity CLI (agy 1.3.3) does not contain it yet.

Why did Gemini 3.1 Pro disappear from Antigravity? It was tagged “Leaving Soon” on October 12 and removed from the CLI model list by October 13. Google points users to Gemini 3.8 Flash in the meantime.

Is Gemini 3.1 Ultra the same as Gemini 4 Argon? Nothing shows that they are. They are separate model IDs, and only Argon has variants and picker labels.
